Trade
TENNESSEE
Trade is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, and it is considered the oldest community in Tennessee. It is located along Hwy 421 between Mountain City, Tennessee and Boone, North Carolina. Trade is also the eastern most community in the state, and it is the highest community in the state at 3133 feet elevation. Trade is served by a Post Office assigned zip code 37691 and is home to several businesses.
Trade was established in the 18th century, as a trading outpost. It was known as “The Trade Gap” and was used by Native Americans, fur traders and pioneers. For a glimpse of history, there is a pre-civil war gristmill that has been restored using many parts of the original mill. It is known as the Trade Gristmill and is located at the Trade Community Center. This is a great attraction to share with family and friends.
